I can't say Muesli

I'm Irish.
Byron is Welsh.
We grew up pronouncing things differently.
Sometimes it's what endears him to me.
Sometimes it's what makes me want to hit him over the head with a frying pan.

It's not that I object when he says something differently to me.
It's when I say something and he cannot contain his laughter that I get mad.

Take the word muesli.
When I say it he nearly pops a hernia laughing.
He says he is not laughing "at" me but he is just laughing "with" me.
Whatever Mr B.
I'm reaching for the handle of the nearest heavy inanimate object...
be warned...

Here is a photo and recipe for a great toasted MUESLI that I made this week.

1/2 cup Honey
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Olive Oil
Heat together in saucepan until sugar is dissolved.
3 cups Rolled Oats
1 cup Special K flakes crushed
1 cup Sunflower Seeds
1 cup Walnuts
1 cup Raisins
Pour hot syrup onto mixed dried ingredients.
Mix well and spread on large flat baking tray.
Bake in oven for about 30 mins stirring tray occasionally to cook evenly.
Allow to cool and crisp up before eating.
Tastes great with yoghurt and fruit or just as a normal cereal with milk.

It says it lasts for 10 days in an airtight container.
Ours was all eaten in 24 hours so we haven't tested this theory.

P.S. No husband was harmed in the making of this recipe or blog post...
...but it was a very close thing!

  1. Your post made me laugh out loud, Gina!! My husband spent much of his childhood in the south and I tease him about the way he says certain things. I tell him he's in New York and that's not how we say see things around here. : )

Thank you for the absolutely wonderful comment you left regarding my father. It made me laugh and cry all at once. I love that someone on the other side of the world knows about "Grandpop Rippy!!" xoxoxoxo

  4. So come on - tell us how you pronounce muesli!
I laughed at this post Gina.
The three of us have very different accents and ways of saying words in this house too. As you know I'm Welsh and still have a very strong South Wales accent where I pronounce most letters in a word very carefully! Neil has a North Yorkshire accent and Sibs is very Australian....fun times.
They tease me about the way I say 'butter' (butt-er)!
